About the Chorus

The Heart of Maryland Chorus is the performing chorus of the Patapsco Valley Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. We formed in 1982 by a merger of the Catonsville and Columbia chapters. Since then we have been increasing our membership and sharing our music within the community. Most of our members are close by in Catonsville, Ellicott City, Columbia, and Reisterstown, but we have a few brave souls making the trek from Carroll, Montgomery, and Harford Counties, too.

The chorus performs in local events, including our annual show and the popular Lasagna and Barbershop Dinner. In February, you'll find us out delivering singing Valentines in quartets. Each June, we sing patriotic songs before the fireworks at the Fort McHenry Flag Day celebration. This event is one of the performance highlights of the year. In December, you can find us at Baltimore Harborplace, singing Christmas carols to ring in the season.

In addition to local performances, the chorus competes at the division and district level within the Mid-Atlantic District of the Society, winning several championships over the years. The chorus has also competed at the Buckeye International, singing with some of the best choruses and quartets in the country. Several quartets are active within the chapter, performing locally and competing on the contest stage. Many of the quartets are available for bookings, either individually or as part of a show package with the chorus.
