Our Director

Director Glenn Phillips has been involved in barbershopping for over 30 years, singing in quartets ever since high school.  Glenn took two quartets to the District finals contest in the Far Western District while in college, and also took his quartet Chairman's Choice to the Mid-Atlantic District (M-AD) finals contest in 2011.  His quartet Maryland Express finished in the Top-10 at the M-AD International Prelims contest in 2010, and in 2011 his quartet Chairman's Choice also finished in the Top-10 at Prelims.

In his early barbershop days, Glenn sang with the Whittier Choraliers under the direction of Earl Moon for three years, and then with the Masters of Harmony under the direction of Dr. Greg Lyne for two years, serving as Baritone Section Leader for both organizations.  He also served as front line Director of the Sweet Adelines Desert Harmony Chorus for two years while living in Australia in the mid-90's.

In recent years, Glenn was Associate Director of the Dundalk Chorus of the Chesapeake for two years, helping to guide Dundalk toward qualification for the International Chorus Contest both years. He was selected as front line Director of the Patapsco Valley Chapter in July 2010 and continues to serve in this capacity.  Glenn was selected as front line Director of the Queen Anne's County Chapter in late 2011, as the organization decided to unite with other Chapters in the region to form a competition chorus in order to promote fellowship and musical growth on the Eastern Shore.  The new Pride of Delmarva Chorus will compete in the 2012 Atlantic Division contest in May.

Glenn earned a music degree at the University of Southern California in 1988 and has considerable experience in choral conducting, composition, arranging, and singing classical art songs and opera.  He is a candidate in the Barbershop Harmony Society Directing Certification Program and has completed almost all of the requisite Certification coursework.  Glenn was recently inducted into Delasusquehudmac (DELA), the M-AD Honor Club, in the class of 2012.
